Italian men love the Barbour Jacket and not only to go hunting. Especially journalists and architectures often wear this famous jacket in the center of Rome. In the Eternal City the shop is in via del Leoncino but you can find them also in other italian men store such as Cenci, in via di Campo Marzio, not too far from Via del Corso. Now there is a big new:

Barbour Collaborates with Film Director, Sir Ridley Scott to create the ultimate Director’s Jacket

For the first time, leading heritage and lifestyle brand Barbour has collaborated with South Shields born legendary film director and producer, Sir Ridley Scott on a Director’s jacket for men and women. The women’s version of the Director’s Jacket was developed with Sir Ridley and his daughter Jordan Scott who is a filmmaker and photographer.

The Director’s jacket has been especially designed by Barbour and Sir Ridley Scott to celebrate Barbour’s 125th anniversary in 2019. Designed with practicality in mind, it presents functional outerwear for time spent outdoors. Featuring detailed finishes requested by Sir Ridley himself, together with input from his son, Luke Scott, CEO of the Ridley Scott Creative Group, the Director’s Jacket has a military style collar and roll away hood. In true Barbour style, this jacket has hand warmer pockets with additional features such as offset pockets to hold keys and a signature script lower pocket to accommodate an A4 script. Key details on the jacket include anti-glare zips and studs designed to avoid attracting attention on film sets. An inner detachable quilt for extra warmth gives the option for the jacket to be worn across all seasons. The back label on all of the jackets features a bird illustration drawn personally by Sir Ridley and two of the studs on the jacket feature this unique bird design.

Paul Wilkinson, Global Marketing and Commercial Director, Barbour said “We are delighted to be working with Sir Ridley Scott on this unique project. Barbour and Sir Ridley are probably two of the most well-known names to come out of South Shields and in our 125th year, we are delighted that we have been able to collaborate together and to celebrate our shared birthplace. The Director’s Jacket combines the best of Barbour’s design expertise with our fit for purpose functionality and practicality into an innovative jacket that has all the features required by a world renowned film director. These jackets are unique – they can be worn on film sets or of course, for everyday wear by film aficionados who want a practical weather resistant jacket with just a touch of film magic.”

Sir Ridley Scott said “I’m delighted to have been invited by Barbour to help celebrate 125 years of this great British brand. The Director’s Jacket is truly spectacular. Specifically designed with Directors in mind.” The Director’s jacket for men and women will be available in selected stores worldwide from July 2019.

THE NEW DESIGNER IN BRIONI

Brioni in Rome has a nice boutique in via Condotti in Rome when I go once in a while with clients. Last week, the brand had his presentation in Milano during the Men’s fashion week. The new designer is Norbert Stumpfl. Austrian he worked for Haider Ackermann at Berluti and before in Louis Vuitton , Balenciaga and Lanvin. In Milano Brioni showed camel cashmeres, suede and leather shirts and new pants. The Fall Winter Collection had also jackets, wool hoodie who give to the brand a modern style.

When we look at the accessories there are norwegian shoes in cordovan leather. I am sure that a lot of hollywood stars will also love their new Astrakan jackets . I bet we are going to see them on the red carpets. Also have a look to the nice choice of gilets. “It’s all about Sprezzatura, a very roman thing. You were all these amazing clothes but once you have them on, you just don’t care” explained the designer to Luke Leitch on Vogue Runway website. A very sprezzatura guy, in my opinion, was Marcello Mastroianni and probably also Vittorio Gassman.

As we are from Rome, the www.grandtourshopping.com appreciated a lot this kind of quotes which is absolutely in the spirit of the italian style. Book a tour with us as soon as possible to have a flair of sprezzatura and much more…

SALES IN ROME START ON JANUARY 5TH

Shopping in Rome is a great adventure, especially from the 5th of January when sales are going to start. The best way to take advantage of them, is to buy smart. What do we mean by that? When you go shopping on sales you don’t necessarly have in mind a particular item. Don’t think before that you need those boots or that bag. You have to be open, an open mind on shopping. Remember also that when an item is too discounted (more than 50 %) generally it is a bad sign in Italy. The average sale should be around 30 %.

A good radar is to look for quality. Don’t go low cost. Focus on the best, on clothes, bags, accessories that you could not buy full price And this has two reasons. One is that when you buy a good brand it lasts longer, secondly if you don’t want it anymore, if you are bored, it will be easier to sell it in a consignment store next year ( in Rome one of the best is called Dress Agency in via Plana in the area of Parioli) or on line.

Finally in Rome the weather in the next days is supposed to be cold but sunny. A lot of romans are not back yet from vacations so it is an extremely good moment for sales searches. I have a shopping tour booked for tomorrow afternoon ( one day before official sales and we will see if we can find already some pre-sales or make reservations) . The sales will last in Rome till February 28th. We can lead you to the best sales opportunities in town around Piazza di Spagna, via del Babbuino, via Condotti etc…Don’t miss the chance to book us www.grandtourshopping.com
